About

Speech & Language Therapy in Practice is a quarterly, UK-based subscription magazine. As the name suggests, it is written for speech and language therapists and students, although it may also be of interest to associated professionals. This speechmag.com site complements the magazine and provides professional development and networking facilities for subscribers.

As a speech and language therapist, editor Avril Nicoll ensures that all content of the magazine is relevant, interesting and – most importantly – practical. Readers are guided to consider how an article might apply to their work, whatever their client group, and to use the contents as a tool for reflecting on their own practice.

First published as Speech Therapy in Practice in 1985 by Hexagon Publishing, the magazine briefly became known as Human Communication. Avril took it back to its roots in 1997, introducing speechmag.com in 1998. While terminology and practice have evolved over the years, the magazine’s enthusiastic approach and commitment to developing the profession is unchanged.

The Winter 11 issue, due out at the end of November, will be the last.
